Welcome to Class 6W with Miss Wilcox
Spring Term 2018 Curriculum Overview for Parents
Year 6 Detectives
At the start of our unit for Crime Scenes, we arrived to find a crime had occurred during the early hours of the morning. Our year 6 detectives were set to work finding the clues and identifying the criminal. They did a fantastic job and used many reading skills to explain who they believd the murderer was.
As part of our Slavery topic we created puppets based on the traditional day of Day of the Dead. We were required to work in small groups to manipulate the wire to create the body parts and then hook them altogether. We had to make sure the body was in proportion too. At last we were able to decorate them and use wood to make the handle at the top. We are really proud of our projects and we worked amazingly well in our groups.
Fair Trade Bake Sale
Year 6 have been working exceptionally hard this half term. Last week, as part of our topic for Slavery, we held a Fair Trade Bake Sale. The children were in charge of finding recipes that include fair trade ingredients, organising a shopping list along with costings, promoting the event through persuasive invites, baking the cakes and then selling them on their groups stall.
The children thoroughly enjoyed the event and were fantastic throughout the entire process, because of their hard work we raised over £300 to put towards our school trip next half term.
Well done year 6 and thank you to everybody who attended and contributed to our event.
Our clay olympians
Our topic this half term has been the Anicent Greeks. In art we decided to make clay models that depicted the sporting events from the olympic games. We worked exceptionally hard on these, firstly by bending the wire to create a human form and then by moulding the clay to create a life-like form and the appropriate pose.
Have a look at our pictures and see if you can tell which sport the model represents.
We survived Kingswood!
Last week the majority of year 6 left our comfortable environment of Sunnymede and travelled to Cromer for a week of funfilled activities at Kingswood. Luckily the weather was perfect for our adventures and at somepoint during the trip we were all challenged, be it abseiling down the tower, crawling though tunnels for caving or trusting our partners not to guide us into a bush in nightline.
Below are a few pictures that document our trip. Hope you enjoy them as much as we enjoyed our trip!
Welcome to 6W's class page. It is our last year at Sunnymede Junior School and it is looking like it will be an eventful one! We will tackle this year with a growth mindset and enjoy the rest of our time here while working hard towards our future. We will endeavour to update this page with all our exciting adventures and hard work.
